The Holiday Season is full of celebrations for many, but beyond the Festival of Lights, Christmas trees and Karamu feasts are many folks in our own community just trying to get by. Giving Tuesday presents us with an opportunity to inspire generosity around the world in just one day. This movement to “do good” helps non-profit organizations with a chance to raise more funds than on an average day. There are so many different ways to express generosity: Give time, make someone smile, help a neighbour, or make a donation. Everyone has something to give and every act of generosity counts.
This year, at Trail Bicycles we continue our commitment to support the JohnHoward KidStart Program. We have raised over $2400 last year, and over $8500 in the last 3 years - let's add to that!
JEFF WILL BE MATCHING DONATIONS TO A SUSTAINABLE LIMIT AGAIN. (Keep scrolling to find out how to donate.)
The JohnHoward KidStart Program is a one-to-one mentoring program for children and youth ages 6-12 in the Comox Valley and Campbell River.
Mentoring is provided by dedicated, caring and carefully screened adult mentors. Through these one-on-one relationships kids have a chance to strengthen their resilience to challenges they may encounter. Each child in KidStart has different reasons for needing support, whether it be the loss of a family member, challenges at school or stressors at home. Mentors support their mentees through activities that build confidence and self-esteem, increase connections to the community, and most importantly create opportunities for them to just be kids and have fun. This free service engages youth, encourages positive achievements, and supports mental and physical health. Games and arts and crafts definitely feature prominently in the activities that mentors and mentees do together!
KidStart depends entirely on community based fundraising, grants, and donations. Trail Bicycles is proud to be a part of this.
We’re excited to be supporting the JohnHoward KidStart Program for #GivingTuesday again this year and to beat our tally from last year: $2,455.40!!
Donations will be accepted via cash, debit or email transfer between November 23 and December 4, 2024. If you would like to donate via email transfer, please send your donation to shop@trailbicycles.ca and make sure to leave your name and "JohnHoward" in the comment section.
