Be sure to spread the word about how to support women and children in the community experiencing abuse, trauma, recovery and/or poverty.

THANK YOU.

The Comox Valley Transition Society (CVTS) supports women, children, and families who are experiencing or fleeing abuse, overcoming trauma, working toward or through recovery, and those who are unsheltered and/or struggling with poverty.

The CVTS opened LILLIHOUSE in 1992, an 11-bed home in the community that provides a safe, confidential space for women and their children, fleeing violence.

The Station is a youth housing facility in Courtenay, owned and managed by The John Howard Society of North Island. The program provides furnished suites for young people ages 17-22, an office for the program staff, as well as a caretaker on site. It’s close to shopping, recreational centres, bus stops, and major services. Youth in the program have been homeless, at risk of homelessness, or are transitioning from MCFD care to living on their own. The youth collaborate with the supported independent living coordinator to develop goals and learn how to live independently.

The Comox Valley Food Bank (CVFB) distributes free supplementary food to people in need. As a non-profit organization committed to reducing hunger since 1983, the CVFB gathers food and cash donations to support food distribution and collection programs.

The CVFB reaches a wide range of urban and rural populations in the Comox Valley, from Oyster River in the North to Cook Creek in the South, including Hornby and Denman Island residents.

As the need for supplementary food continues to grow in the community, this is reflected by the record number of clients accessing services. The CVFB continues to strive towards producing larger quantities of items in food hampers, better quality food, fresh produce, and healthy children’s snacks.
